Trust in the LORD with all your heart

Marriage is a permanent, committed partnership between a man and a woman.

"And that a man should leave his father and mother, and be forever united to his wife. The two shall become one no longer two, but one! And no man may divorce what God has joined together. Matthew 19:5-6

How should husbands relate to their wives?

"And you husbands, show the same kind of love to your wives as Christ showed to the church when He died for her That is how husbands should treat their wives, loving them as parts of themselves. For since a man and his wife are now one, a man is really doing himself a favor and loving himself when he loves his wife! Ephesians 5:25-28

Husbands should honor their wives.

"You husbands must be careful of your wives, being thoughtful of their needs and honoring them as the weaker sex. Remember that you and your wife are partners in receiving God's blessings, and if you don't treat her as you should, your prayers will not get ready answers." I Peter 3:7

How should the wife relate to her husband?

"You wives must submit to your husbands' leadership in the same way you submit to the Lord. For a husband is in charge of his wife in the same way Christ is in charge of His body the church. (He gave His very life to take care of it and be its Savior!) So you wives must willingly obey your husbands in everything, just as the church obeys Christ." Ephesians 5:22-24

Does that mean the wife must do all the "give and take"? No! Marriage requires submission by both partners.

"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." Ephesians 5:21

What counsel forbids physical or verbal spouse abuse?

"Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them." Colossians 3:19

For a successful marriage, determine to settle misunderstanding at once.

"If you are angry, don't sin by nursing your grudge. Don't let the sun go down with you still angry get over it quickly." Ephesians 4:26

Keep the relationship growing in unity and understanding.

"Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit, and so be at peace with one another." Ephesians 4:2-3

How should society view marriage?

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." Hebrews 13:4

By what commandments has God guarded marriage? The seventh and the tenth.

"You shall not commit adultery." and "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife." Exodus 20:14,17

What is the only acceptable reason that Jesus gave for ending a marriage?

"But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to commit adultery, and anyone who marries a woman so divorced commits adultery." Matthew 5:32

For how long is marriage intended to last?

"By law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage." Romans 7:2

What instruction is given about who to marry?

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?  II Corinthians 6:14

Romance and the gift of sexuality are blessed by God when exercised within the bonds of marriage.

"Let your manhood be a blessing; rejoice in the wife of your youth. Let her charms and tender embrace satisfy you. Let her love alone fill you with delight." Proverbs 5:18-19

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 9:9)

And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him an help meet for him. --Genesis 2:18

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. --Genesis 2:24

Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins. --Proverbs 10:12

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD.--Proverbs 18:22

Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. --

I Corinthians 7:2-4

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. --Ephesians 4:31- 32

Submitting to one another in the fear of God. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. --Ephesians 5:21-33

Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. --Hebrews 13:4
